Authentic adventures happen when our purpose as guides, our destination’s sense of place and our guests’ motivations align. This course provides an introduction to these elements as part of the Adventure Guide Training Course.

The content currently available is likely to change in the coming weeks. The modules are available for free as samples as we write them.
This course is an introduction to guiding authentic adventures, including a look at:
- how the organization’s purpose and the guide’s motivations impact the experiences provided;
- the team involved in offering guided adventures;
- the role of the destination’s sense of place; and
- identifying the ideal guest for the adventure.
It is part of our Adventure Guide Training program and is to be completed prior to the in-person portion of that course to ensure that we are using a common language and starting point.
All of the training is specific to commercial guiding but a lot of the content may be of interest to others who enjoy adventures or who lead outdoor adventures for school groups, hiking clubs or friends.
As part of the Adventure Guide Training Course, we will use the information presented in this course to work through a case study looking at:
- the importance of alignment between the guide’s motivations, the organization’s purpose and the needs of stakeholders;
- the importance of place in adventure tourism; and
- scenarios to help us identify different types of guests and how we can adapt itineraries to provide a guest-centred experience.
