Guides play a key role in the adventures our guests get to experience. It’s a varied role that brings a lot of varied skills together, from teaching new activities and sharing stories to setting a safe environment and orchestrating the details that make the adventure happen.
Interestingly, there are very few guide training programs focused on adventure tourism. As we worked on refining how we approach adventures, we realized that most of the training opportunities available to our guides were designed for other contexts like outdoor recreation or interpretation.
This course is an introduction to the adventure tourism context, the adventure framework we use to craft and facilitate adventures, and how we approach lifelong learning as guides.
It is part of our Adventure Guide Training program that includes the Field Leaders certification from the Outdoor Council of Canada. It goes beyond the requirements of the Outdoor Council of Canada certification and is to be completed prior to the in-person portion of that course to ensure that we are using a common language and starting point.
Guides looking to join us at Nordegg Adventures who already have the Field Leaders certification or the Group Management certification from the Interpretive Guides Association are encouraged to take this short course to gain a better understanding of our approach to adventures and the role of the adventure guide.
The information provided in this course is available in the Our Approach to Adventures document, as well as the shorter overview document.
You can find out more about how we implement the Authentic Adventures section of the Adventure Framework here.
