Nature playground at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre
Head out for the day discovering a variety of options for active family adventures along the QE2 corridor. You’ll get to play, experience some of the activities available for kids and parents as well as learning more about some of the area’s attractions.
On this fast paced tour you’ll get to try some of the activities, maybe even getting your hands dirty along the way. We’ll be covering a lot of ground in a short time, giving you a wide variety of ideas to recommend for your guests.
This tour is part of the Experience Experts program offered by Tourism Red Deer and regional partners to help local industry employees learn more about the city and region so that they can share those experiences with visitors. Itinerary
This tour is offered on June 6, 2017 and is open exclusively to Central Alberta tourism industry employees. Reservations are required and must be made through Tourism Red Deer.
Where To Meet
- 8:15 am – Check-in with your guide at the Visitor Information Centre & Alberta Sports Hall of Fame on Highway 2
Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum
The day starts by getting the blood flowing as we head into the museum for a team challenge, trying out activities like climbing and wheelchair racing.
Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery
Next up we’re going to get hands-on at the MAG with one of their family art program.
Ellis Bird Farm
Heading outside for our next stop, we’re going to Ellis Bird Farm where we’ll be learning about their many family programs offered throughout the summer.

Kraay Family Farm
We’re making our way to Lacombe County where we’ll get to play on the farm. After a lot of fun trying out their activities we’ll take a lunch break with a picnic featuring local food.
Abbey Centre
You’ll learn more about this family friendly facility from the staff as they take us on a tour.
Discovery Canyon
We won’t actually get to go tubing down the improved Discovery Canyon but the staff from the Kerry Wood Nature Centre will be taking us on a tour, showcasing the updated features and the new interpretive displays.
Kerry Wood Nature Centre
You might get dirty on this one. The staff will be taking us through various hands-on programs in the Imagination Grove nature playground and the Harmony Garden outdoor music space.

The itinerary may change without notice due to the weather and other factors. Our goal is to always provide the best possible experience.
Logistics
What’s Included
- A professional guide.
- Admission for all activities and food samples.
- Gourmet picnic lunch and snacks.
- Guides carry emergency equipment, including first aid kits, bear spray and cell phone or satellite communicators on all tours.
What You Need To Bring
- Proper footwear (walking/running/hiking shoes or boots)
- Appropriate clothing for the weather
- A windbreaker, shell and/or rain jacket
- A warm sweater (conditions can chance quickly)
- A water bottle
- Camera
What kind of lunch is included? Can special diets be accommodated?
Lunch for this adventure will be a picnic featuring local food, cheese, pickled vegetables along with fresh fruits, baked goods and ice pops. Please make sure to mention any dietary requirements when you book your adventure and we will try to accommodate whenever possible.

Waivers are required for all participants. You can review the waiver here. Activities provided by third-party operators may require additional waivers.
