Abraham Lake Ice Conditions – January 15 2022

WARM DAYS MEAN WORKING A LITTLE HARDER TO FIND GREAT BUBBLES

The warm weather is creating some challenges but there are lots of great bubbles to be found if you’re willing to spend some time exploring.

The cold temperatures are over for now but we seem to have gone to the other extreme with temperatures above 10C.

This means that we’ve seen some melt, leaving pools of water on top of the ice. As the temperature drops it leaves a cloudy layer on top of the clear ice. This layer is also likely to break as you walk on it, creating some interesting pictures but also some challenges if you are not familiar with the area or testing the ice underneath.

We’re expecting strong winds early next week which should help clear the ice back up.

As always, the highest risks on Abraham Lake are on the rocky shoreline as you approach the lake and while standing on the ice near the shore. Make sure to brush off on your ice safety skills before you head out.

Where to Go

Preacher’s Point has been snow-covered and the ice isn’t great there this year. Cline Landing had some bubbles for those willing to explore a little further but the bay itself was snow-covered.

Belly of Abraham + Abraham Slabs and the new Ice Bubbles parking lot are the best options right now.
